Categories of Water Damage

There are three broad categories of water damage. While they have color names; the water can be any color.

1: “Clear” or “clean”

If the water came from a leaking pipe going to an appliance, you have clean water. It’s the most common type of water damage, but we rush out because:

• Water causes damage regardless of pollutants
• Water will pick up contaminants from the surfaces
• After 24 to 48 hours, mold spores open, and the water is no longer clean

We’ll remove the water and dry the area and do any damage remediation and restoration after a standard cleaning/disinfection.

2: “Gray”

Gray water is any water that contains household chemicals (soaps or detergents) or biological contaminants like common molds and bacteria. Appliance malfunctions are the most common cause of gray water damage in homes, such as from:
